Portrait of Gary Relyea - Opera singer11/21/2014 The pictures below are from a portrait session at the Don Valley Art Club in a project to paint portraits of the singers from Opera York's upcoming production of The Magic Flute. First session is of Gary Relyea.
Gary Relyea who has sung for the Canadian Opera Company as well as Opera York. Gary is a tall, distinguished-looking baritone who could easily double for Don Quixote. He will be singing the role of Sorastro in the Magic Flute. Part of invitation to the artists of DVAC from Frank Pasian regarding a series of portraits as per below.... "In March of 2015 DVAC portrait painters and Opera York will collaborate to mount an exhibition of portraits at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. The exhibition will coincide with Opera York's production of The Magic Flute. About 6 of the lead singers will be invited at different times to the DVAC studio on Tuesday evenings or Sunday afternoons depending on the performers' schedules. Artists are invited to paint portraits during these 3 hour sittings and submit their work to a committee that will select approximately 30 portraits to be hung for the show. Most likely 4 portraits of each singer will be selected. The opening of the Exhibition will be early evening of Saturday, March 7, 2015. A performance of The Magic Flute will begin the same evening starting at 7:30. The Exhibition will run until the end of March." Seeing Ghosts?11/9/2014 I was just looking at a picture of a Nebula
Three thousand light years away from here. The image viewed, photographed, shared. Seen by us now so long after it demise Its impression spreading out far and wide Man's technology is so newly acquired Now opening eyes to what is around us Reaching so far away to past events Wonders and mysteries near and far Making us really question what we are I believe in these images taken and shared The beauty thats in interstellar space Events and life existing so long ago Now being seen via our tiny little eyes. As if they have just happened now. Why would I doubt now that you saw a ghost An image of someone who has passed Dying recently or so long long ago Would't their impression of existence and demise Still also carry on forever like a star Because we can't see something most of the time Doesn't mean that under the right conditions What is only needed is a seeking eye To see something that was there all the time Impressions and ghosts of what is always around us.
