The older I become, the stronger the passion and desire has grown to paint more. I love art and have worked with many mediums. I love to explore the inexhaustible possibilities art has to offer and find the process fulfilling and rewarding. |
Biography
From the time I was young, I was very interested in art, especially drawing and making different crafts. My favourite Christmas gifts were new art supplies or a Jon Gagny "Learn to Draw Kit". I used to save up my allowance to buy ' holy cards' from the Church because they were beautiful painted portraits. I remember marveling at the way the faces were painted and how the clothes were made to look so natural. This is probably why portraiture has been my main focus for many years.
I grew up in Whitby, Ontario and my High School did not offer art courses so I didn't get any formal education in art at that time. I was thrilled when I moved to Toronto at the age of 19 and discovered the wide range of art courses available. I was then able to earn a living in the daytime and take art classes in the evening
Ever since that time my avocation has been art. I have taken many courses over the years and have learned to work in many different mediums including pastels, watercolours, gouache, oils, acrylics, pen and ink, Sumi E brush painting, photography, silk dyes, fabric paints, soft sculpture and plaster cast sculpture. These past few years I have extended my exploration to include computer graphics and digital photography, photo enhancements, animated images, and web design Recently, painting in acrylics, jewelry making and wearable art based on some of my abstract paintings..
While portraiture, including animal portraits, continues to be a focus, recently I have been painting more landscapes as well as mystical and abstract paintings. My favourite pastime, when the weather permits, is driving through the local countryside to find a lovely or interesting spot to spend the day painting and enjoying the nature around me. I mostly work on a black background. I love the idea of putting colour and light into the darkness.
I belong to a few art clubs. At present I am a member and also Past President of the Don Valley Art Club and on Audio/Video team at the Art Guild of Scarborough. These associations enable me to continue to do portraiture and life drawing every week, learn from fellow members and demonstrating guest artists, and they also provide opportunities to show some of my works. I have won several awards from both clubs.
My paintings are in many private collections all across Canada and also in Hong Kong, Scotland and Chili as well as in Borough of East York, Public collection, now shown in Queen's Park, Toronto, ON. office of Michael Prue, MPP.
.In a totally different direction, I also studied spiritual and energy healing and became a Reiki Master. It seemed to come so natural to me as I have always interested in people on all levels, from healing, listening and learning, sketching and painting, studying anatomy, massages, reflexology, herbal remedies and a genuine love of people. Many things had spurred me to learn to work with healing energies and felt further inspired to learn more after experiencing a couple of Sweat Lodge Ceremonies.
